San Ramón is a city of approximately 76,000 people located in the San Ramón Valley of Contra Costa County. It is considered part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is renowned for its pleasant climate and beautiful location, which includes lots of trees and panoramic views of Mount Diablo. The city is home to the headquarters of AT&T, Chevron Corporation and 24-Hour Fitness, as well as Toyota and United Parcel Service offices in the prominent Bishop Ranch business park. San Ramon is 8 miles northeast of Castro Valley and 16 miles east of Oakland.
It has a moderate climate and is home to many parks, charming neighborhoods and great restaurants. The Las Trampas regional desert borders the northwestern end of San Ramon, at the northern end of the Bollinger Canyon. The city was recognized as Tree City USA in 2001. San Ramon is located midway between Buchanan Field Airport and Livermore Municipal Airport, although Buchanan Field only flies to destinations in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and Livermore has no regular commercial service. The racial makeup of San Ramón was 38,639 (53.6%) white, 2,043 (2.8%) African American, 205 (0.3%) Native American, 25,713 (35.6%) Asian, 156 (0.2%) Pacific Islanders, 1,536 (2.1%) from other races, and 3,856 (5.3%) from two or more races.

The San Ramón branch of the South Pacific Railroad were laid out and completed in 1891. San Ramón public schools are part of the San Ramón Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) and serve approximately 32,000 students. The smaller Bishop Ranch Regional Reserve extends on both sides of the western border of San Ramon, located approximately between Interstate 680 and the Alameda County line.
